MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -The Tobacco 21 ordinance has been in place for just a few weeks in Mankato, and officials say businesses are successfully catching on.
The city recently completed compliance checks at 41 businesses.
On multiple occasions Mankato Public Safety sent an underage person inside each one to try and buy tobacco products.
“And everyone passed so we are happy to report that. This was our first year that it has fallen under the tobacco 21 ordinance that has been adopted by the city council and that was actually in place while we did these checks so that was good to see of all 41 people that were checked, everyone passed so that was great,” says Sgt. Chris Baukol from Mankato Public Safety.
The checks were sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
