ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) - Governor Walz orders flags to be flown at half-staff today in honor of Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, who passed away yesterday at the age of 68.

The son of sharecroppers, Cummings was first elected to congress in 1996.

When democrats won back the house in 2018 he became chair of the powerful House Oversight Committee, one of the committees leading the house impeachment inquiry.

The 68-year-old was known for making friends on both sides of the aisle even when he didn’t agree.
