MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - West Mankato residents are enjoying their very own ice skating rink, thanks to a dedicated neighbor.
Jed Falgren has been setting up the rink for 21 years. It’s located in Dotson Park, where it opened up on Christmas Day. The neighborhood came together to make the rink extra special this year, including a new addition of festive lights for nighttime skaters.
Falgren says his kids inspired him to upkeep the tradition of the annual neighborhood rink. “Taking over the rink was, you know, a priority to have something for them and their friends to play with. Now, 20 years later, the neighborhood has turned over, and there’s a bunch of other young kids around the neighborhood, and I certainly want to have them enjoy the same experiences generations have in the past,” he added.
The rink will remain open as long as the winter weather permits.
