MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Department of Public Safety shared this year’s results from their “Keep the Wreath Bright, Prevent a Red Light” safety campaign.

The station reported three fires during this holiday season. All three instances caused no fire-related injuries, and the total value of property loss is $12,000.

The annual campaign aims to raise awareness about fire safety during the holiday season. Each year, a wreath with clear bulbs is placed outside the station on South Riverfront Drive. When a fire incident occurs, one of the bulbs is replaced with a red bulb. If there are fire-related injuries, however, a blue bulb replaces a clear one.

“The goal is to keep the wreath lit with clear bulbs, and so I’d say this year was probably a little bit better than average for the number of red bulbs on the wreath,” said Jeff Bengston, Associate Director of Public Safety Resources.

Mankato Public Safety says all three fires were preventable.
