MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — Two Minnesota State Mavericks men’s hockey players were named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week Monday.
Goaltender Dryden McKay was named Goaltender of the Week for his performances against Northern Michigan over the weekend.
The sophomore from Downers Grove, Illinois, saved 16 shots in Friday’s 5-0 win and 21 shots in Saturday’s 4-0 victory.
McKay has an overall record of 5-1-0 this season with a 1.01 goals against average and .953 save percentage.
In addition to McKay, freshman defenseman Akito Hirose was named WCHA Rookie of the Week.
The Calgary, Alberta, native accumulated one goal and three assists in the series against Northern Michigan.
Hirose has scored one goal while assisting on six others on the season.
The No. 4 ranked Mavericks is scheduled to host Michigan Tech in a pair of WCHA games Friday and Saturday.
