LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn. (KEYC) - A former state house candidate has donated leftover campaign funds to some area non-profit organizations.
Leroy McClelland, who ran for the Minnesota House 23B seat has dissolved his campaign treasury and is donating the money to local food shelves and homeless shelters.
“There are many people hurting right now and their needs are much more pressing than the next election” McClelland said. “After the bills were paid there was about $4,000 left in the treasury and I just decided that it was more important to help people who are hurting right now than to save the money for later.”
Recipients of the funds include The Echo Food Shelf, Salvation Army Shelter, and Partners for Housing in Mankato; Wellcome Manor Family Services in Garden City; Watonwan County Food Shelf in Saint James; Madelia Community Food Shelf; Maple River Loaves and Fishes; Waseca County Food Shelf; New Richland Food Shelf; and The Village Food Shelf in Waterville and Elysian.
