Mankato City Council approves plans for downtown Dunkin’

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — The Mankato City Council approved an amendment Monday for the construction of a popular coffee destination downtown.

The council voted 4-3 to approve a new, drive-through-only Dunkin’ location that would be similar to the drive-through Caribou Coffee locations in Mankato and St. Peter.

The 880 square foot building will be located on the 600 block of South Riverfront Drive, across from the corner of Liberty Street and next to the Salvation Army.

Discussion on the amendment lasted roughly an hour leading up to the vote, and concerns surrounding traffic on Riverfront Drive and the danger of vehicles stacking in the street when the line gets long.

The addition would require some road construction, including a new median on Riverfront Drive.

There is no word yet on when construction will begin.
