NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — The North Mankato City Council is moving forward with major projects at Caswell Park.
The vote came in a council meeting Monday night.
One project includes upgrades to the complex’s six softball fields. The plan is to replace the fencing and dugouts, upgrade the lighting, modify concession stands and add new scoreboards.
The city will also install infrastructure to allow fans to stream games online.
The State of Minnesota is providing a $2 million grant for the project, provided the city provides $750,000 in funds.
The council says that money will come from the city’s general fund.
Construction will begin this summer.
”So, we’re going to go through with our full schedule this upcoming summer,” Public Works Director Nate Host said. “Our last tournament is Labor Day weekend. Right after Labor Day, then the complex will be shut down and the contractor will go in and make all those improvements.”
The council also authorized the city to partner with an engineering firm to begin Caswell North Soccer Complex upgrades, which include turf upgrades and lighting enhancements, along with new bleachers.
