North Mankato Fun Days canceled for 2021 due to pandemic

NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — North Mankato’s annual “Fun Days” celebration has been canceled for the second year in a row.

Co-Coordinator Denny Kemp says the cancellation again is out of an abundance of caution due to the pandemic. Kemp says even though more people are getting vaccinated each day, there is no way for the organization to completely eliminate the risk of transmitting the virus. He says they also couldn’t develop a scenario that would allow for a “traditional” Fun Days.

Fun Days is organized by the City of North Mankato and the North Mankato Civic and Commerce Association.

The celebration was started in 1965 to thank members of the community who helped the city in that year’s flood.

The 2021 celebration had been planned for July 7-11.

Organizers ask everyone to still support the ECHO Food Shelf, which benefited from a food drive as part of the annual parade.

You can donate to ECHO by mailing a monetary donation to PO Box 3212, Mankato, MN 56001 or dropping off a donation at 1014 South Front Street, Mankato.
