MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - A statewide database review from the Southern Minnesota Center of Agriculture found that farmers in Minnesota are spending on average $1.1 million in their communities each year.

Corn, soybeans, dairy and hog production are pulling in a lot of money for southern Minnesota.

The Center says that translates to farm incomes going up.

“The farm production is then driving some of our ag industry, whether that is in the Greater Mankato Area; milk processing, we see a lot of soybean processing in this area. We have financial services, lenders, bankers and others. It is a huge part of the Mankato economy, not just the rural landscape,” Southern Minnesota Center of Agriculture Executive Director Megan Roberts said.

The Center says that while the farm economy is doing well, there could be some troubles on the horizon with everything going on in the world right now.
