NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts farmers will plant a record amount of soybean acres for 2022.
Farmers nationwide are expected to plant a record 91 million acres of soybeans this year, surpassing 2017′s record of 90.2 million acres.
Meanwhile, the USDA’s Prospective Plantings Report expects a much lower level of planted corn acreage this year: an estimated 89.5 million acres nationwide. That’s a decrease of 4.2% from 2021′s corn average.
If this data holds true, it would be the second time in the last 13 years that planted soybean acreage in the U.S. has exceeded corn acreage.
