NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - One building in North Mankato has had a few different tenants over the years after previously being occupied by Mutch’s Hardware and Y Barber’s.

“I think it is something that we have needed in North Mankato, and I am excited to bring it,” Neutral Groundz owner Deb Morin said.

As the owner of the growing coffee and home goodz shop, Morin is putting her own twist on a long-standing building on Belgrade Ave.

“The door, give it a little grace, it is 105 years old, so some definite character of the building with original ceilings and we want to keep that,” Morin said.

Right next door, she is offering bar accessories like rim salt, home décor, fast selling charcuterie boards and kitchen gear.

Morin is more than thrilled to finally get a chance to show the public the ideas that have been in her head for almost three years finally come to life.

Morin and Andy Wilke of Greater Mankato Growth say they are proud beyond words at the success that Belgrade Ave. and the area have seen this year.

“It’s exciting because you want to bring something that the locals want. You want to work with your city and when you have a vision and if your vision pairs with the public, and it pairs with the city’s vision of growth, then it’s a win-win,” Morin explained.

“Post-pandemic, a lot of folks are having a lot of opportunities to come up with new ideas and new ways to expand their businesses. We love to help facilitate that and see them investing in their business in our community,” said Andy Wilke, business development and public affairs director at Greater Mankato Growth.

Wilke says he was impressed with everything the new expansion had to offer, especially the bar accessory area.

“Rim salts or sugars over there that look really good too, and I think those will be fun for the summer.”

They will be having their grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, which will have olive oil tasting with some bread among other offerings.
