Jordan Mullins

I was born and raised in Pike County. I've never left. When it comes to the mountains, they are truly my home. It's where my family has lived for generations and it's where I want my family to live for many more to come.

As a child, growing up in a lower-middle-class Appalachian family, I never thought I would be a journalist. Even in high school, writing was not my favorite. I would have much rather been playing music or other extracurriculars. I graduated from Pike County Central High School in 2016 with no real plan on what I would be doing for the rest of my life.

Then, halfway through my college career, I began a class called "Introduction to Journalism" at the University of Pikeville. That class alone changed my life. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Communications from UPIKE in May 2020.

On August 22nd, 2020, I married my wife, Sierra. While we have had our ups and downs with health issues and plenty of disagreements, I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather grow old with.

In March 2021, I officially began my career in journalism and came to work as a reporter at WYMT. The people that I have met along the way and each of the stories that I tell are a blessing. Each day you learn something new even if you've lived here your entire life.

If I had to give you one piece of advice, it would simply be to believe in yourself. You can do big things even if you're from a small town in Eastern Kentucky.
