Mankato Man Dies During Lake Huron Dive
A Mankato man has died after a diving accident in Lake Huron.
According to CBS affiliate WWTV in Cadillac, Michigan, it happened Sunday in the Straits of Mackinac.
Dennis Javens died after he was unable to resurface while diving off of a friend's private boat. He was checking out a shipwreck east of the Mackinac Bridge.
Investigators say Javens ran out of air and was unable to make it back above the water.
The Northern Michigan Dive Center was on a separate dive near that site. A crew member retrieved Javens' body.
Javens was rushed to shore where emergency personnel attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
