Greater Mankato Area United Way gathered with community partners this morning to announce the number of sites for the Salvation Army's Mobile Outreach Meals program is doubling this year.

The food program served 6,600 meals last year to 100 children over the course of the summer.

This year they are looking to feed 200 kids in the Mankato and North Mankato communities.

The expansion was made possible because of donations that exceeded the Greater Mankato Area United Way's 2016 goal.

Greater Mankato Area United Way president Barb Kaus says, "Some of those dollars are being used toward this expansion, and that's what we're so excited about, and can't thank the community donors enough for that and within the region is that, these are the beautiful things that can happen when people give."

This year's Mobile Outreach Meals program starts June 6th.
