St. Peter Bakery Offers 5 Cent Coffee for Seniors
It's been quite a few years since a cup of coffee was this affordable.
Nadine Haukoos, a St. Peter resident, said: "The last time I got a cup of coffee for 5 cents was at Gustavus in the dining service. They used to always have coffee for 5 cents."
Diamond Dust Bakery in Saint Peter has slashed the price for a cup of coffee to 5 cents for seniors 55 or older, every Thursday from 9 to 10am.
"The coffee's great! The coffee is as good as anywhere.", Haukoos said.
Java drinkers from as far away as Madelia have made the trip to take advantage of the deal.
Cheri Brown, owner of Diamond Dust Bakery, said: "So many people have welcomed it and it's good to see the tables full, people up here sharing time, and coming up to Diamond Dust."
Saint Peter Senior Center came up with the idea for retro-priced coffee and they partnered up with the bakery to make it happen. A group of retired Gustavus employees love the coffee and the lively conversation.
"We just have a good time. We come and chat and we have a lot of good laughs.", Haukoos said.
