MANKATO-- The ninth annual Mankato Marathon is less than four weeks away.
The city is currently preparing for the eight to ten thousand visitors expected to visit Mankato for the race weekend, which has greatly expanded over the years. Eight races will be taking place this year: the diaper dash, toddler trot, Kids K, 5K, 10K, relay, half marathon and marathon.

Anna Thill, president of Visit Mankato, says there's one thing that makes the Mankato Marathon so unique.
 "The cheer zones are part of what makes the Mankato marathon very special," Thill said. "We place those cheer zones in places where it's particularly difficult for the runners, especially toward the end of the race."
