(MANKATO, Minn) - MSU unveiled a new plaque Wednesday as part of its sesquicentennial celebration week.

The new plaque is replacing the current one dedicated during the university's last benchmark anniversary in 1993

It’s located on the north side of the Wigley administration building.

MSU's founding year was displayed incorrectly on the old plaque, saying the school was founded in 1867 rather than the correct year of 1868.
Today's ceremony was held to fix that error.
"Since 1998 we've been using the correct year (1868)," said Interim Dean of Library Services Daardi Mixon. "It's been a while since we've known but this is a really good opportunity as part of the sesquicentennial to kind of leave that sesquicentennial mark on the campus."
MSU will continue to hold events on campus to wrap up its 150th anniversary celebration week ending Sunday.
