We're getting a better idea at just how much the state's 30 colleges and seven universities contribute to Minnesota's economy

The Minnesota State system says its schools drove over $8 billion of the state's economy in the fiscal year 2017. The analysis says that economic activity supported or sustained over 67,000 jobs throughout Minnesota. 

South Central College says its estimated economic contribution is over $160 million, with over 1400 jobs added.

The report states MSU Mankato contributes $781 million to the economy.  The Minnesota State system estimates MSU Mankato generates $5.4 million in charitable donations and $1.3 million in volunteer time.

Overall, MSU employs 1600 people directly, and supports more than 6,000 jobs.

The 150 year old university also generates more than $43 million in state and local revenue.
