The holidays are over and although spring seems a long way off yet, it’s there, peeking over the horizon. And that means it’ll be time to hit the pool or the beach.

What better time than now to start prepping your swimwear for the summer, and getting a head start on your waterside wardrobe.

Swimsuit Trends of 2019

Here are some of the top swimsuit trends to look out for in 2019.

1. Crop Tops

Found at the top of the trend list for 2019 are swimsuits with a crop top design.

This takes the typical bikini style and reduces it into more of a stripped top half, rather than a bra.

This is a great way to avoid shoulder straps, and the tan lines that come with them, and to also show off your midriff.

2. Stripey

Swimwear with stripes not only give off a typically nautical feel, but they can also flatter a woman’s physique.

Vertical designs add height and length to someone’s frame, while horizontal is a hot trend for 2019 when it comes to one-pieces.

Swimsuits with a plunging neck strap, ruched detailing along the bust and a stripy horizontal pattern to the lower half are very in this year. Discover more here.

3. Cutouts

It’s an oldie but a tried and tested design that continues to come back around: cutouts.

You’ll see plenty of swimmers on the beach this summer in one-pieces featuring hints of flesh in the form of cutouts, adding a little mystique and far less obviousness to your beach look.

4. Crisscross Straps

One major trend for this year, sweeping the runways at various showcases in S/S 2019 previews, is the crisscross strap look.

Featured in both tops and bottoms of bikinis, as well as one-pieces, this design sees added straps run horizontally across the body, usually just below the cleavage or at the waist.

A style that typically used to show up on the backs of swimsuits, this design has migrated forward and taken prominence.

5. Side Straps

Rather than fastening your swimsuit at the back, go for a bikini or one-piece that secures at the side.

This design aspect is very much in favor in 2019.

6. Bold and Bright

In terms of color, going overboard might be the way to go.

Multicolor is everywhere this season, with ethnic, tribal and animal print designs making an appearance on the runway and in stores.

7. Pelvic Cleavage

For the more daring out there, bikini bottoms with a ‘pelvic cleavage’ style have done a U-turn from the 1990s shores of Baywatch and are back on trend in 2019.

8: Halter Style

Both one-piece and two-piece swimsuits with halternecks remain in favor this year.

This style adds support and full coverage, yet options out there allow you to be bolder with plunging designs, adjustable straps, and low backs.

9. Long Sleeves

Cropping up on the runways for S/S 2019 are a variety of long sleeved one-pieces.

While this might seem unconventional for summer beachwear, it’s a style that is very much on trend this year, and you’re bound to see more of as the spring comes around.

10. Adding Accents

Swimwear doesn’t have to be as brazen as it sounds.

In fact, highly on trend this season is the idea that you can cover up more with extra accessories.

Think jewelry and belts and even jackets. Cute denim cropped coats worn down to the beach will give you a head-turning look, saving the big reveal for when you’re about to hit the waters.
