Staying Safe While Staying Warm
Mankato, MN --- Strong winds and cold air are right around the corner and Mankato Public Safety wants to remind everyone to use proper caution when heating your home.
Officials say it's best to have furnaces and other heating devices serviced at least once a year to prevent fire and injury during the winter.
Also, always turn off and unplugging portable heaters when leaving the house or turning in for the night.
"One safety tip or one prevention measure that we can do at home, is making sure we keep a three foot clearance away from stoves, fireplaces and heating elements from our children and our pets," says Public Safety Marshal, Sean Hayes.
Mankato Public Safety also stresses that you should never use the stove or oven as a means of heating a home.
