Searles Man Charged With Wife's Death
SEARLES, MN - Brown County sheriff's officials have arrested the husband of a woman found dead in Searles. Duane Arden Johnson, 58, is charged with felony criminal neglect and a felony count of receiving stolen property.
According to the criminal complaint, a 911 call was received at around 11:45 Thursday morning.
When deputies arrived at the home on Sperl Avenue, they say they found Duane Johnson standing in the doorway naked, telling officers his wife was dead. He then ran upstairs and began bathing in a soap and bleach mixture.
Johnson had also spray painted a strange message on his front door.
The report says Johnson had been using amphetamines over the past several days.
Deputies found the body of 69-year-old Debra Lynn Johnson wrapped in a sheet.
According to authorities, she had heart problems, affective disorder and diabetes and was not being properly cared for. The report goes on to say that Johnson had been giving his wife snow to stay hydrated.
Officers also say they found 47 guns at the residence, several of which were stolen.
At 4 p.m., a bail hearing was held for Duane Johnson at the Brown County Courthouse. Bail was set at $150,000. His next court appearance will be on February 8.
