MANKATO, Minn. --- Local advocates rally to remember those who lost their lives to domestic violence.

The Committee Against Domestic Abuse in Mankato is partnering with the Minnesota Coalition of Battered Women for the state wide day of action bringing awareness to domestic violence.

New initiatives by CADA this year are hoping to get to the root of the problem through bills traveling through the legislature this year.

"Two really big ones, number one is we're trying to get some funding to help people and work with people and change their abusive behaviors. The second really important bill is to try to get funding for prevention education in the school systems and in communities and also to teach people relationship dynamics," said CADA executive director, Jason Mack.

The goal is to prevent domestic abuse situations from arising in the first place and being innovative with prevention tactics.
