MANKATO-- Community leaders and Pioneer Bank hosted a ground breaking ceremony Thursday morning to celebrate the bank's newest location in Mankato.

This will be the third Pioneer Bank in the Greater Mankato Area, and the ninth in southern Minnesota, with a total project cost of nearly $9 million.

The new building is setting up shop on a patch of open land near the busy intersection of Adams Street and Victory Drive near the Madison East Center.

CEO David Krause said the project is a great sign of progress that they made as an organization, showing the commitment that they have made to southern Minnesota.

" By investing in the Mankato community with a facility like this, it shows that we're ready to continue to work hard to develop the Mankato area."

The new location will have a few new features that separate it from the other two locations, including a designated community room for customers on the second floor, and a modern lobby with self-serve teller stations.

The new bank is expected to be up and running by February 2020.
