EXCELSIOR, Minn. (KTTC) – A nonprofit organization got a big boost to continue its mission to help families need.

On Saturday, January 30, United Healthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) hosted its 8th annual Frost Fat Tire Festival, a bicycle event aimed to help raise money for the foundation, which provides medical grants children’s families in both Minnesota and the rest of the country.

UHCCF helps families with children to cover medical expenses for families that either do not have insurance or are not covered in specific areas. This year’s festival raised more than $165,000.

Since 2005, UHCCF has awarded more than 34,000 grants valued at more than $70 million.

“So, I’ll speak as a father I’ve got two daughters of my own and I know the pressure of managing a budget, trying to pay a mortgage, put food on the table, health care costs fit into that as well, to be able to alleviate even just a part of that balancing equation is a tremendous honor,” UHCCF assistant executive director Scott Otto said.

UHCCF is having a summer version of this bike race, with its Century Ride event in Eden Prairie, MN on July 20.
