Gustavus Adolphus College unveils new solar array
ST. PETER, Minn. (KEYC) -In celebration of Earth Day Gustavus Adolphus College officially opened their new solar array Tuesday
The 1.1 megawatt array has been in the works since 2019, and will provide around 10-percent of the campus’ power, the equivalent to powering the campus’ two largest residential halls on its own.
Gustavus previously had some solar panels helping out with power, but the new field is 25-times larger than the college’s other installations.
Leaders of the project said that the array is just one aspect to an ongoing effort with the future goal of making 25-percent of the school’s energy completely renewable.
”Our students are concerned about the earth, and we want to be a role model for the community, for our students, for the rest of colleges in the United States and beyond. So we want to be thought of as a place where sustainability matters,” said Gustavus president Rebecca Bergman.
The array hasn’t started powering the campus yet, but school officials said that it won’t be long before it’s fully operational.
