St. Peter High School celebrating Black Peoples’ Joy Day on Friday

ST. PETER, Minn. (KEYC) – St. Peter High School will be adding a little more “Joy” to Black History Month as it continues.
St. Peter High School announced that it will hold Black Peoples’ Joy Day, an educational and cultural conference, Friday, Feb. 23.
The high school says that the day is meant to honor Black peoples’ rich heritage, culture, and contributions; a “vibrant acknowledgment of Black culture and Black Joy.”
More than 600 high school students will be able to experience the conference.
A few of the cultural events set for the day include traditional African music, dance, theatrical performances, and a meal prepared by the school own culinary staff that includes ethnic Black food, with options that include Sweet Potato Comfort Pie – considered a “sacred dessert.”
In addition, there will be a lineup of well-renowned speakers and activists from across the state.
Topics will range from the significance of maintaining Black and African traditions, celebrating the accomplishments Black communities have achieved, as well the obstacles still yet to be overcome.
St. Peter High School says it’s committed to an educational environment that respects and promotes an understanding of cultural diversity and heritage.
