Cop on a Roof raises money for Special Olympics
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - If you drove past Dunkin on Madison Avenue in Mankato Friday, you might have seen something on the roof but it was all for a good cause.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and Mankato Department of Public Safety held Cop on a Roof at the Dunkin Donuts on Madison Avenue, all to raise money for the Special Olympics.
The event went from 6 am to 11 am Friday.
Deputies were handing out different vouchers for different donation amounts.
“Special Olympics reached out to us I think it was probably three years ago and asked if we wanted to be involved. And of course we very quickly jumped on board and became part of the organization,” said Deputy Jase Guetter with the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.
A $1 donation got you a free donut and a $ 10 donation got you a free coffee.
“It gives us the opportunity to just connect with the community, and then plus, we get to help support local athletes in Special Olympics here in Minnesota so that they have the opportunity to compete in sporting events throughout the state,” said Deputy Thomas Rother of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.
If you didn’t have the chance to go out there, there is a link on the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page to make a donation.
