MyPlace Shoe Store gets new shoes to kids for free

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -Kids at Mankato MyPlace could get new shoes Wednesday just in time to start the new school year.

Volunteers from MEI and Crossview Covenant Church gathered more than 70 new pairs of shoes to give to kids at MyPlace.

Wednesday was the second year of the event where kids also got a new backpack filled with school supplies.

Volunteers said that the goal of the drive is to lessen the burden on families getting ready for the upcoming school year, and that the excitement for the initiative could be felt at every level, from the kids to the volunteers.

”When you started school when you were little, going back to school with a brand new pair of shoes you just get to walk in, you’re confident, you feel good about yourself and you’re able to start the school year off right.” Said MEI Director of Outreach Coralyn Musser. “We just wanted to have this opportunity to love on the kids in the neighborhood and our community here to be able to start the school year in a good way.”

Most area schools will return for the year September 3
