MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -As fall presses on there are more leaves on the ground than in the trees.

Cities everywhere are deep in the process of leaf pickup, starting mid-October and will be until mid November, with Mankato’s starting Monday.

Leaves are to be raked and put unbagged on the curb, with branches and sticks pulled out, and cars should be parked away from leaf piles so collection can come through.

Most cities compact the leaves and turn them into mulch to be used in parks and trails.

Leaf vacuums will be a common sight for the next few weeks, as most pickups end around the weekend of November 22.

Cities often have different pickup schedules for different neighborhoods, so you should check with your city to know exactly when you’re up for collection.

If you miss the deadline for pickup, many cities offer a free drop-off site to bring the brush to yourself.
