Feed Our Communities Partners High School Pantry Gears Up for Holiday Season
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - “There is little to no support for those kids.” Program Coordinator, Cliff Coy.
In an effort to help local high schools and their kids in need, support from feeding our communities partners, otherwise known as the FOCP has expanded to local high schools around the area.
Coy added, “These kids that do age out and end up in high school, you know, they’re still struggling with the same problems that they did when they were in middle school and elementary school. You know, not having enough food to get them through the day the week.”
With the expansion to high schools and the holiday season right around the corner, the message and need for pantry food grows immensely for the FOCP.
Coy continued with, “It’s extremely important for people to, you know, be aware of this about this year-round, not just through the holiday season, but you know you obviously see it more during the holiday season because kids are out of school, and they may not have access to those free daily lunches that Minnesota schools provide now.”
With more kids and their stomachs to fill, Feeding Our Communities Partners hopes that one day the need for the nonprofit can be erased entirely.
“Everybody’s hope is that we don’t need this program eventually, and that all the kids in the area will have access to food no matter what.” Coy closed with.
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible for the High School Food Pantry. Food pantries are available at: Central High, Mankato East High, Mankato West High, Futures Program, St. Clair and Kato Public Charter.
