UPDATE: City of Mankato restarting dog impound with hope of reuniting animals and owners
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - As we told you Thursday, the city of Mankato plans to restart a dog impound program next year.
Although dogs could be euthanized after five days, the city says that is not their goal.
The real hope is to reunite families with their lost dogs.
“We have anywhere from 80 to 100 calls where an animal is impounded or collected for potential Impoundment. Each year, our goal is always to get the animal reunited from the beginning, and most of the time we’re very successful at that,” said Mankato City Manager Susan Arntz.
City staff say they have the ability to scan for microchips and contact owners if there is one on file.
The city would use their former impound location by Sibley Park, should the program resume.
