MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -The Mankato City Council passed the city’s Cannabis retail plan Monday night.

The city will allow for up to four retail locations throughout the city.

Those locations must be one-thousand feet away from schools, 500 feet away from day cares or treatment facilities and 500 feet away from parks that have playgrounds or other kid-friendly features.

A single business also cannot own more than one location.

City manager Susan Arntz said at the meeting that the city is starting conservative with the regulations and that more businesses can be added or regulations can be changed over time.

The ordinances do not allow for use of cannabis in public and the passed ordinances will go into affect in late December
