MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office wants drivers to be aware of increased DWI enforcement this holiday weekend starting Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said that historically Thanksgiving weekend is a hotspot for impaired driving, especially the day before Thanksgiving.

The sheriff’s office wants everyone to plan safe and sober rides home, and sheriff Jeff Wersal said that Thanksgiving and Christmas are overall more dangerous holiday weekends than the summer holidays due to a combination of dangerous factors all coming together at once.

”The threat of road conditions, also the temperatures will deter people who traditionally might walk home, they don’t want to walk home because it’s too cold. In the winter time it could be a little bit more dangerous,” said Wersal.

The sheriff’s office also wants drivers to watch out for impaired drivers and drive safe over the cold holiday weekend.
