UPDATE: Power restored after outage impacted thousands in greater Mankato area

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - UPDATE: Power has been restored in the greater Mankato area after an outage impacted thousands Friday morning.

According to the outage map on Xcel Energy’s website, as many as 8700 customers across Mankato and North Mankato were a part of the outage.

As of noon, power has been restored to all customers, according to the outage map.

An Xcel Energy spokesperson says an issue with a transmission line in the area caused the outage, with crews safely getting power restored in under 40 minutes.

The company says it is investigating what led to the issue and will perform any needed maintenance to ensure reliable service.
