MSU Mankato reviewing programs in preparation for possible budget deficit
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Minnesota State University Mankato is preparing for a possible budget deficit for the next fiscal year which starts in July.
A spokesperson for the University says the deficit is the result of rising operational and instructional costs and decreased funding from the Minnesota state legislature.
For the last two years, the university has been evaluating and reviewing its programs to make sure they align with the needs of students, industry demands and economic trends.
Right now, the campus community is discussing the review and what changes need to be made so the university can continue to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience.
According to the university spokesperson, the Minnesota state system, which is made up of 33 colleges and university’s across the state, is seeking $465 million in new funding from the legislature to help alleviate the budget concerns.
