MADISON LAKE, Minn. (KEYC) - Two men in their 70’s were rescued from the water of Madison Lake after falling through the ice Tuesday.

According to a release from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, just after 1:00, deputies, conservation officers and personnel from Madison Lake Fire and Mayo Ambulance responded to the DNR access area of Madison Lake to assist with a man that had fallen through the ice approximately 1600 feet from shore.

Authorities say Frank David Cesario, 71, of rural Mankato was in the water holding onto the edge of the ice. The sheriff’s office says Joseph Edward Postels, 75, of North Mankato was on the ice in the same area. They had been fishing. They were loaded onto inflatable rafts and brought to shore and transported by ambulance for treatment for possible hypothermia.

No first responders were injured in the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office says they began issuing cold-weather floatation suits to patrol deputies several years ago to facilitate rapid response to these types of situations. Multiple deputies used the suites to enter the water to bring the men to safety Tuesday.
