Mankato considering surveillance upgrades
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -Mankato Public Safety is seeking public feedback on potential camera upgrades for police.
The city already uses 542 surveillance cameras around the city, and are proposing upgrading and expanding the suite of cameras downtown.
The proposal includes installing 13 additional cameras near city entrances on major roadways and using mobile camera trailers to set up during major events.
Automated License Plate Recognition cameras would also be activated in squad cars and installed around the city.
The city claims that these upgrades would speed up searches for missing persons and crime suspects, and that the data would be secured and used within “reasonable Expectation of Privacy”.
The proposal will be heard by the Mankato City Council on April 28, and the public survey can be filled out at https://everyvoice.mankatomn.gov
