Minnesota totals 112 road fatalities in 2025 so far

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -Local law enforcement and state officials gathered Monday to discuss Minnesota’s fatal crash rate.
Toward Zero Deaths is an initiative that aims to lower the number of fatal crashed in Minnesota.
Monday officials discussed things like enforcement strategies and messaging to the public.
Last year’s numbers trended in the wrong direction, with 479 people dying on Minnesota roads in 2024.
This year the goal is to bring those numbers down to 225, but Minnesota is already at 112 road fatalities not even halfway through the year.
”Our focus is on the distracted driving, impaired driving, speed and seatbelt enforcement and that is what our troopers will go out and primarily try and focus on, because those seem to be the leading causal factor when we come to fatality crashes,” said Jean Cemensky with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Memorial Day weekend will start what the State Patrol calls the “100 Deadliest Days”, when the majority of fatalities happen.
