Minnesota DFL protests at Mayo Clinic Northridge
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Representatives from the Minnesota DFL gathered in North Mankato Friday, protesting cuts to local healthcare programs.
Protestors gathered at Mayo Clinic’s Northridge location in North Mankato, which will close in December alongside five other Mayo locations.
The group focused on recent cuts to federal spending and specifically called out representative Brad Finstad, claiming that Minnesota’s first congressional district will see a higher increase in medical costs than anywhere else in the state.
“I’m proud to have lived in North Mankato, raised my children here for over 30 years,” State Senator Nick Frentz (DFL - North Mankato) said. “I’m disappointed as a North Mankatoan, but it’s not just people who live here, who after all can go to Mankato. What about a woman who has to give birth and has to drive 12 miles through the snow?”
Mayo announced the upcoming closure of the Northridge campus in September alongside locations in St. Peter, Wells, Montgomery, Belle Plaine and Caledonia.
