Eagle Lake is offering free yard clean ups for the elderly through new volunteer program for kids
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -
As the leaves show off their new colors and begin to descend to various lawns, Eagle Lake’s, McRea Bromeland, is ready to clean up the mess for those who may not be able to do it themselves.
“So, I’m going to go around like people’s houses in our community and help rake lawns, shovel driveways, mow lawns for people who can’t get outside and do it for themselves,” Bromeland explained enthusiastically.
McRea ‘s Mom Jennifer says, it’s all part of a partnership between the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and the Eagle Lake Lions Club.
“To try to engage young people and encourage volunteerism, working with older people in our community,” Bromeland explained. “Just overall strengthening the partnerships in our community between the youth and different generations.”
Mcrea is ready to recruit his buddies for the cause, “So we can do more of it faster and get it done.”
Lieutenant Mitch Gahler says they’re actively looking for more volunteers and yards to rake.
“Just trying to determine how many would actually need this resource. It’s kind of the beginning stages so if we can’t find enough people, were just going to go around town and just start raking,” Gahler explained.
McRea is ready to go but there might even be a little incentive for him.
“Me and my friends and Mitch we can go around and help people and then at the city park under the pavilion there’s also going to be cookies and brownies and stuff.”
Reporter: Are you just in it for the cookies and the Brownies?
Mcrea: No. (with a smile)
All volunteers need to pre-register and the work begins on Saturday October 25th.
