Mankato Salvation Army requesting food and goods donations during time of increased food insecurity
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Salvation Army says they need nonperishable foods and hygiene products year-round.
However, like most food shelves and service providers in the area, they’re seeing more people in need.
Salvation Army Captain Andy Wheeler said, “The folks that we are serving in our day shelter program, are some who are very heavily influenced by food insecurity. So, when we think about the small little pantry operation we have for our shelter folks, we know that those shelves are going to be bare if they are not already bare.”
Wheeler says the Salvation Army acts as a Swiss army knife for services in the community, providing what other providers can’t to make sure all people in need get the help they’re looking for.
Wheeler said, “When we get information about people struggling, we’re not worried, we’re not the worrying type, we’re not scared, we just say ‘how can we handle this’, right? So, what are we going to do next?”
Right now, the Salvation Army is specifically looking for non-perishable food items with pop tops, hygiene products for men and women and anything else that can help people in need.
