MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Voters in the Nicollet Public School District passed both questions for their referendum.

Voters said yes to an operating budget increase of $288,000 for five years, and a $7.6 million bond for security and infrastructure improvements.

Those improvements include a new secured entrance, new exterior doors, some tuck pointing on the brick facade, new flooring and HVAC renovations, along with upgrades to the technical education space.

Those upgrades include a car lift, so students can work on something bigger than a small gas engine, and new exhaust hoods for the welding room.

The welding room will also be expanded using space from an adject paint booth, which hasn’t worked for years as parts are no longer made for this particular booth. The school district hopes to hire an additional tech ED teacher to help with the workload, which includes a commercial type butcher area.

Students had just finished processing a whole pig with help from Schmidt’s Meat Market. The school district also hopes to offer more college courses and possibly a commercial driver’s license course.
