Holiday Sharing Tree kicks off season of giving in Mankato
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The season of giving is officially underway as the Holiday Sharing Tree program begins another year of helping families across Blue Earth and Nicollet counties.
Started in 1985, the program has provided more than 84,000 gifts to local residents in need. Last year alone, more than 900 families received help through the initiative.
Giving Cards became available Tuesday at locations across Mankato, North Mankato, and St. Peter.
Cards can be picked up at:
- River Hills Mall Food Court
- Fleet Farm
- Bomgaars
- Both Hy-Vee locations in Mankato
- North Mankato Taylor Library
- In St. Peter: First National Bank Minnesota, Nutter Clothing, and Hy-Vee
Each card lists a recipient’s first name, age, and a suggested $20 gift card donation.
Project Manager Liz Thiesse says even a small contribution can make a big difference.
“This is just a really economical way to give to somebody in need this holiday season,” Thiesse said. “For most of these recipients, this is the only gift they receive during the holidays.”
Each Giving Card also includes space for donors to write a personal message. Filled cards and donations are due back by Dec. 14 so volunteers can deliver gifts before the holidays.
Donations can also be made online at www.holidaysharingtree.org or mailed to Holiday Sharing Tree, P.O. Box 4261, Mankato, MN 56002.
