Mount Kato seeing early cold weather could mean an earlier opening date
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -
The ski destination received its first coating of snow on Tuesday evening, and the ski patrol says this is a good sign the mountain can open soon.
Last night’s weather is the beginning of a streak of temperatures where snow can be made at Mount Kato.
But first, the ground needs to freeze a little more before they can start deploying the snow cannons. Already, it’s a good start to the season.
Bruce Prehn from Mount Kato said, “It’s been a couple years since we’ve had this kind of weather this time of year. So, take advantage of it.”
Prehn says they’ll aim to start making snow this week and hope for sustained colder temperatures to open as soon as possible.
