December 1 marks ‘World AIDS Day’ to bring awareness, eliminate stigma
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -
Minnesota State University Mankato’s Health Education Office wants to use this day to bring awareness to students.
Studies on HIV/AIDS positive statistics vary because of inconsistent reporting.
Justine Schultz from the MSU Health Education office says open conversation helps remove the stigma behind HIV/AIDS and college students are at an increased risk for sexually transmitted diseases.
Schultz said, “When we think about AIDS and HIV, young adults are at a higher risk. So, if we can give that education to them, we’ll just again create a safer community and campus.”
The Health Education Office provides condoms, testing, and other resources for students on campus.
