MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -

With a big turnout this year, people have been waiting in line for an hour or more to see the lights and everyone attending is asked to bring in nonperishable food items.

21 different food shelves receive help from the Holiday Lights, with a recent donation of 900 pounds to the Saint Peter Food Shelf.

Volunteer Food Shelf Coordinator, Tina Roe said, “Look in your closets grab a canned good or two, box of cereal, roll of toilet paper. Even things like personal care items, toothpaste, toothbrushes things like that, not everyone realizes those are such a necessity.”

Tina Roe with Kiwanis Holiday Lights went on to say food donations are down slightly so far this year, but they are open until New Years Eve, hoping to catch up.
