Lane closures coming to Riverfront Drive in late February

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Construction is underway for the Veterans Memorial Bridge which will bring changes are coming to Riverfront Drive.

Starting Monday, Feb. 23 there will be lane and shoulder closures around the bridge. Crews will be setting up platforms underneath the bridge, setting up for later work, and the closure will move as crews do across the bridge.

MnDOT says that there were discussions about closing Riverfront altogether and are prepared to change plans if the need arises.

“We’ll monitor it, and if something were to happen or it looks like it’s not working out as well as we’re hoping then we’ll definitely switch back to the complete detour, but we should be able to progress with the work for the installation of this work platform in that manner,“ MnDOT’s Todd Kjolstad said.

There are full Riverfront closures planned for later in the year that will last a few days at a time. In those cases, traffic will be detoured to 2nd Street.
