MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Plans for Good Counsel Hill are coming together as spring approaches.

Ownership of the campus was officially handed over to the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership at the end of last year. Now the group is preparing to submit their redevelopment plans to the city to get things moving soon.

“We’ll be putting those out to bid probably in the spring so we can get that work going right away, not only on the Good Counsel Meadows property, but also here on campus as well,” the group’s CEO Chad Adams said back in December.

Over the next several years the group will renovate the former dorms into apartment space, the common area into offices for area nonprofits, and the chapel into an event space.

That’s in addition to existing assisted living infrastructure being put to use and the Good Counsel Meadow being turned into affordable housing.

All of this is being done while the group tries to preserve the history of the century-old buildings that hold sentimental value to so much of the community.

“We have a mission and a purpose to preserve the buildings. The historic character that you see here today is really important and we want to sustain the legacy that the school sisters have had not only up on the campus but through their service in the community as well,” Adams said.

The group will be holding an open house detailing the plans for the campus on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
