MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Youth mentoring is returning to the Mankato Area as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) expand their footprint in Southern Minnesota. The group will now be serving seven counties, including Nicollet and Blue Earth. Mentor services will start in Mankato & North Mankato and branch out from there. As organizers explain, Big Brothers Big Sisters will work with the Mankato YMCA to help former mentors reconnect with their littles. BBBS currently has three open positions, and the group hopes to be fully staffed by March. Executive Director Michelle Redman says the goal is to have 50 littles enrolled initially, and to recruit more Bigs starting in May. Michelle says, BBBS will serve all public and parochial schools in Mankato, and plans to expand into the surrounding communities as the group recruits more volunteers. She encourages people to think about becoming a big, saying volunteers often tell her that they get way more out of it than they give.
